Origin

Carlos Aguilera Franceschi is the grandson of Efraín Franceschi, who founded Carmen Estate in the 1960s. Under the family’s stewardship the farm became one of Panama’s most recognized estates, with its Geisha lots earning consistent attention at the Best of Panama auction and contributing to the country’s standing in the specialty coffee world. Carlos spent decades at the helm of that work.

When the family eventually sold Carmen Estate to the Dashang Group, Carlos treated it as an opportunity to build something smaller and more deliberate. Together with his longtime collaborator Jean Paul Langenstein, he founded Franceschi Coffee, based in Volcán. The project centers entirely on Geisha: carefully managed plots cultivated by Carlos and Jean Paul directly, supplemented by select cherry purchases from neighboring farms, all processed with close attention to consistency.

Where Carmen Estate operated at scale, Franceschi Coffee is built around precision. The same terroir, the same varietal knowledge, applied to lots where every decision is visible in the cup.

This washed Geisha is a direct expression of that approach. Washed processing strips away distraction, foregrounding the variety’s characteristic clarity and lift. The cup opens with honeysuckle and orange blossom, moves into citrus tones of navel orange and clementine, and settles into a clean, tea-like body. Refined without being austere.
